KSPE Bluegrass News:

  MATHCOUNTS

There is a need for volunteer graders for this year's Bluegrass MATHCOUNTS competition.  The competition will be held on Saturday, February 20th at the Whitehall Classroom Building on UK’s campus.

MATHCOUNTS is a competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory.  See the link to the KSPE Bluegrass Chapter website below for more info on MATHCOUNTS.

Volunteers will be grading the tests for the competition (don't worry...graders are provided the answers).  Volunteers will be needed for a couple hours (8:30am to ~11am) and will be provided pizza and drinks as well as a MATHCOUNTS T-shirt.

If you are interested please contact Jennifer Cook by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Also, feel free to pass word along to anyone who might be interested.  We need approximately 20 volunteers to fill the role as graders.

BEYOND THE LEGACY

A University of Kentucky landscape architecture studio is conducting a project throughout this semester called "Beyond the Legacy", which will explore possibilities of linking the proposed Legacy Trail here in Lexington (which will run from downtown to the Kentucky Horse Park) to other areas of the Bluegrass.  These trail extensions would include biking and walking trails (and possibly other types) as a part of the network.  The students would like to invite members of the KSPE Bluegrass Chapter to public meetings as potential stakeholders in this project. The first public meeting is scheduled for February 12th at 2:00pm at the Fayette County Extension Office, located at 1140 Red Mile Place in Lexington. The next two meetings will be at the same location on March 10th and April 16th.
